My Top 10 Tips For Taking Part in Fête Des Lumières!
I have been waiting for this long enough! It is approaching and I cannot wait now for the December 8th – The Festival of Lights which is happening here in Lyon!
I cannot believe that the first year I have been here, I was forced to go out and take part in Fête des Lumières. OK, I heard it is great, I have seen videos to make me convinced that it is really magical event but when the winter evening came, it was dark outside and seemed cold and I wasn’t motivated to leave the flat. Finally, I was forced and I can honestly say I do not regret at all. I would even say a big thank you to those people who are so annoying and make me do things because I enjoy them then very much. Anyway, I was then ready for 2015 Fête des Lumières and came disappointed when it was cancelled but understood the circumstances perfectly. So i worked on my patience another year. And now I am ready, prepared. I know what to do to make the most out of the event and enjoy it fully! I learned from my experience and I will be happy to share my observations with you. Because i think you are going, aren’t you? I don’t need to convince you to take part in Fête des Lumières. The list of reasons why you should participate in Festival of Lights would be useless. But what can be very useful, maybe few practical tips on how to get prepared and enjoy the Festival of Lights fully.
Here you are:
My Top 10 Tips For Taking Part In Fête Des Lumières:
- Get dressed well: warm and comfortable clothes for spending a winter evening outside. Get yourself good shoes for a lot of walking and keep umbrella always will you! That usually scares out the rain!
- Eat & drink well before to have energy for walking and keeping warm.
- Stop for some snacks and taste the street food to warm you up!
- Try the French hot dogs! Basically, this was something I didn’t expect. French hot dogs are not the typical american tiny rolls with a sausage. These are proper French half of baguettes with at least 2 sausages and either the ketchup or mustard dressing to choose, but finally you can have both!
- Visit the most crowded places on the evenings of the week when most people are working. They are going to be less crowded.
- Don’t bring too much things with you. Keep cash and documents close to you and watch out for pickpockets.
- Don’t take the car in the center. There is no way you will find a place to park.
- Use the public transport. It is FREE that weekend on evenings and very well organized.
- Don’t take the camera. There are too many professional photographers who will be sharing photos with the public.
- Enjoy fully & go with the flow & feel safe…yes because lastly i would only add that I felt very safe in Lyon that weekend. The city was full of people but also police and public transport staff. All was very well organized with the transport and police to look after us, provide us with the information and advice so we could efficiently move and focus on experiencing Fête des Lumières!
So now over to you! Have you ever took part in the Festival of Lights? I wonder what you think about the event. Do you have any other tips to share with me? Please leave a comment or send me a message. The time is running so let us get prepared well with my and your tips! Thanks in advance!
